The Problem With The Endless Drive For War

Mother of All Bombs

Greetings my readers. In discussing the actions of the American government of the last week with people offline, I find that people are generally against these attacks. One of the points of impasse, however, is what to do about the matter. Of course, everyone is aware that last Thursday, Syria was bombed with 59 Tomahawk missiles. This week, the Mother of All Bombs, a 21,000 pound explosive with a blast radius of a mile was dropped on a cave in Afghanistan to fight ISIS.

People may not want to hear it, but the reality of the matter is that actions like this will only further inflame the situation in the Middle East. At the very least, the United States has been at war with one nation or another in the region for the past 25 years.

Those who benefit from this kind of warmongering, are really the oil companies and the military industrial complex. The interventions in this area of the world are for economic reasons, not humanitarian as the mainstream media allege. This push for war in Syria has been in the works for years, and is further motivated by the drive for oil pipelines. The American people did not want this, but we’re getting it anyway. There was no voting our way out of these imperialist moves.

The greatest problem with this drive for war, is that it will only escalate. War can have unpredictable consequences, and this one can expand into a wider conflict. All of our lives are endangered, because of the drive for oil profits. Until we do something collectively to dampen the economic imperative that drives us in the direction of war, then this is the road that we are all headed down.

Yes, this is a heavy post for a Friday, but it is what has been on my mind for the past week. Take care.
